BLK Aims to Sustain Higher-Fee Growth

Chief financial officer Martin Small said that 11% annualized organic base fee growth reflected demand across active ETFs, systematic strategies, private markets and cash. Quarterly net inflows reached $205 billion, including $135 billion from ETFs.

Responding to a JPMorgan analyst, Small said that BlackRock could sustainably deliver 6-8% organic base fee growth, with periods of elevated activity pushing growth above that range.

He pointed to higher-fee categories and upcoming institutional fundings. Institutional index outflows of $27 billion, concentrated in low-fee equity strategies, contrasted with stronger active demand.

BlackRock Broadens Its AI Financing Role

Fink highlighted BlackRock's role in financing Meta's planned $14 billion Texas data center and the AI infrastructure partnership's first deployment through the Aligned Data Centers transaction, with approximately $40 billion in enterprise value.

A Morgan Stanley analyst questioned the impact of higher rates on AI financing. President Robert Kapito said that fixed income demand remained in its early stages, while Fink anticipated structurally higher long-term rates amid growing competition for capital.

Pressed by a Goldman Sachs analyst, Fink acknowledged that a tradable compute-financing market requires time to develop reliable data, ratings and analytics. Small said that placing originated investments into long-term client accounts matters more than syndication revenues.

BLK Sees Room for Further Margin Expansion

Adjusted operating margin rose 320 basis points (bps) year over year to 47.8%. Small noted that excluding performance fees and related compensation, the recurring-fee margin reached 48.6%, up 230 bps.

A UBS analyst asked whether margins could hold up in the fourth quarter and expand further in 2027. Small cautioned that a performance-fee mix creates quarterly variability even as scaled businesses support operating leverage.

He cited fee-related earnings margins above 50% at acquired businesses GIP and HPS. BlackRock's 2030 target calls for private markets and technology to contribute more than 30% of revenues.

BlackRock Scales Active Products and Technology

Fink highlighted nearly $30 billion in quarterly systematic equity inflows and active iShares inflows of $22 billion. Active ETF assets doubled over the preceding year to more than $160 billion.

Technology services and subscription revenue grew 14% year over year, while annual contract value increased 12%. Small reiterated management's long-term goal of low-to-mid-teens annual contract value growth.

A Bank of America analyst raised questions about custody capacity for tax-aware strategies. Small reported $5 billion of quarterly Aperio inflows and described efforts to widen financing and distribution access for long/short products.

BLK Expects a Stronger Fourth-Quarter Pipeline

Responding to a Jefferies analyst, Small noted that 30-40% of annual iShares flows typically arrive in the fourth quarter. He expects continued demand for higher-fee active, precision and digital asset products.

Small also anticipated stronger private-markets fundraising after a seasonally quieter third quarter. He acknowledged pending redemptions in evergreen funds but viewed higher base rates as supportive of private credit demand.

For the fourth quarter, Small considered an approximately 25% adjusted tax rate reasonable and anticipated at least $550 million in share repurchases, subject to conditions. The full-year general and administrative expense outlook remained at mid-single-digit growth after annualizing acquisitions.

BlackRock Centers Growth on Client Relationships

Fink underscored retirement outsourcing and whole-portfolio mandates as areas of client engagement. He cited a Dutch pension fund naming BlackRock its preferred candidate for an $80 billion outsourced fiduciary mandate.

Management's emphasis remained on converting financing expertise, product breadth and technology into enduring client relationships. The pipeline spans public and private markets, retirement and international platforms.
